Ernest Freestone was born in 1887 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Joe a iron turner and the late Ellen (Helen) Freestone née Handley of Nottingham.
His father Joe was born in 1848 at Loughborough,he died in 1898 at Nottingham, his mother Ellen (Helen) Handley was born in 1851 at Gamston, she died in Nottingham in 1902 aged 52 yrs, they were married on 11th December 1869 in St Ann's Nottingham, they had 12 children,
Ernest was the husband of Florence May Robinson born 3rd January 1890 they were married on 12th October 1907 at St Albans Church, Sneinton, Nottingham they had a son Ernest born 14th July 1911.they lived at 93 Clarence Street, Nottingham
In the 1911 census they lived at 8 Buxton Street Nottingham, Ernest 25 yrs is a brass bobbin winder, he is living with his wife Florence Mary 21 yrs.
Commencing 0th Decmber 1915 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week.
Private Ernest Freeman enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 2nd battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light infantry, he died of pneumonia on 2nd June 1918 and is buried at Bagneux British Cemetery, Gezaincourt
His brother Private Joseph Freestone enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 11th battalion Sherwood Forsters Regiment, he went to France on 27th August 1915 and was killed on the first day of the Somme having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
