Family history

William North was born in 1884 at Nottingham, he was the son of Pottinger a frame work knitter and Annie North née Palmer and the brother of Sophie, Thomas Henry, Alfred and Ernest North.

His father Pottinger was born in 1852 t Rothley, Leicestershire, his mother Annie Palmer was born in 1852 at Rugby, they were married on 2nd April 1871 at St Mary's church, Nottingham, they had 8 children.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 42 Gordon Road Nottingham, Pottinger 59 yrs is a frame work knitter he is living with his wife Annie 59 yrs a lace mender and their children, Sophie 35 yrs a lace mender, William 27 yrs a warehouseman,Thomas Henry 24 yrs a warehouseman, Alfred Pottinger 21 rs a threader in a lace factory and Ernest 20 yrs a porter in a printers shop.

William was the husband of Florence Charlotte Gunn (born December 1875) married in 1913 at Nottingham,, they lived at 29 Ball Street Wells Road Nottingham.

Commencing 13th May 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week.

Military history

Gunner William North enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 188th Siege Bty, Royal Garrison Artillery, he died of wounds on 3rd November 1917, he is buried at Etaples Military Cemetery
