Family history

George Haywood was born in 1881 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late James a coal miner a farm labourer and the late Mary Haywood née Johnson of Sneinton, Nottingham.

His father James was born in 1833 at Worthington, Leicestershire, he died in 1904 aged 70 yrs his mother Mary Johnson was born in 1838 at Staunton, Leicestershire, she died in 1912 aged 74 yrs, they were married in 1859 their marriage was recorded in the Shardlow Registration district, they had 10 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood.

The family moved to Rose Hill Farm St Matthias Road Sneinton before 1891 and still lived there in 1911.

In the 1911 census they family are living at Rose Hill Farm St Matthias Road, Sneinton, Nottingham they are shown as Mary Haywood 73 yrs a widow she is living with her children, James 32 yrs single a blacksmith and George 30 yrs single a blacksmiths striker.

His next of kin was his marries sister Hannah Shelbourne of Rose Hill Farm, St Matthias Road, Sneinton.

Military history

Gunner George Haywood enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the riding establisment Royal Horse artillery, he died on 21st October 1918 of pneumonia and is buried at Nottingham General Cemetery
