William Foster was born on 15th September 1883 at Nottingham, he was the husband of Florence Lacey (formerly Foster) née Austin born 5th December 1886 they were married in 1907 at Nottingham. they lived at 38 Sheridan Street Southwell Road Nottingham they had children, William 8th December 1907 and Albert born 17th February 1913.

In the 1911 census William Foster and his family are living at 38 Sheridan Street, Nottingham the home of his mother in Law, Annie Austin 53 yrs a widow, William 26 yrs is a labourer he is living with his wife Florence 25 yrs and their children, William Henry 3 yrs and Hilda 1 year old, also living at the address is his brother in law Thomas Hney Austin 22 yrs a labourer.

Commencing 7th April 1919 his widow was awarded a pension of 25 shillings and 5 pence a week.

Military history

Private William Foster enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 9th battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers, he was killed in action in the Balkans on 19th September 1918, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Doiran Memorial, Greece
