Family history

Samuel Weston was born in 1888 at Kilburn, Derbyshire he was the son of Joseph a coal miner hewer and Martha Weston, née Milward of 139, Crompton St., New Houghton, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.

His father Joseph was born in 1852 at Derby, his mother Martha Milward was born in 1859 at Belper, they were married on 20th December 1880 at Duffield, Derbyshire, they went on to have 14 children, sadly 5 were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 30 New Houghton, Mansfield, Joseph 58 yrs is a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Martha 52 yrs and their two sons, Joseph 29 yrs a coal miner hewer and Samuel 23 yrs a coal miner hewer.

Military history

Private Samuel Weston enlisted at Mansfield, he served with the 12th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 26th September 1915, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial
