William Walter West was born in 1889 at Spilsby, Lincolnshire, he was the son of Thomas West a blcksmith he was married on 31st December 1914 at St Peters Church, Mansfield to Alice Goulding Bell,
They states on the marriage certificate that he was a chauffeur and was living at 6 Hamton Street, Grantham he was 25 yrs of age and his father was Thomas West a blacksmith, his wife Alice Goulding Bell was 25 yrs of age and living at 29 Bigbarn Lane, Mansfield she was the daughter of Alfred Bell a chimney sweep.
His father Thomas was born in 1861 at Spilsby, his mother Mary Eliza Waite was born in 1866 at Croft, Lincolnshire, they were married in 1889 at Spilsby, they went on to have 10 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census his parents are living in the village of Croft, Thomas 49 yrs is a blacksmith he is living with his wife Mary Eliza 45 yrs and 7 of their children.
His wife is still living at 29 Bigbarn Lane Mansfield upon his death.
Corporal William Walter West enlisted at Lincoln whilst residing at Mansfield, he served with the 29th Division Motor Transport Company Army Service Corps , he died on 6th November 1918 he is buried at Croft All Saints Churchyard, Lincolnshire.
