Archibald Vernon McQuin was born on 18th July 1895 at Mansfield he was the son of Arthur a stationary engine driver and the late Beatrice McQuin née Oscroft and the brother of Marguerite, Beatrice and Sarah McQuin. of 78 Regent Street, Beeston, Nottingham
His father Arthur was born in 1864 at Sutton in Ashfield, his mother Beatrice Oscroft was born in 1862 at Farnsfield, she died in 1904 aged 42 yrs, they were married in 1884 at Mansfield, they had 6 children.
His father remarried Margaret Ellen Christina Campbell (born 1883 in London) in 1910 at Nottingham,
In the 1911 census the family lived at 11 Bleak Hills Mansfield. Arthur 47 yrs is a stationary engineman at a hosiery works, he is living with hs second wife Margaret Mcquin 28 yrs and his children, Archibald V 15 yrs a coal miner, Marguite 11 yrs a scholar, Beatrice 8 yrs
Private Archibald Vernon McQuin, enlisted at Mansfield and served with “D” Company, 2nd Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment landing in France on 8th September 1914 he was killed when his billet was struck by shellfire on 26th September 1914. He is commemorated on La Ferte-sous-Jouarre Memorial.
