Family history

William John Jarvis was born in 1890 at Stonebroom, Derbyshire, he was the son of Richard Skinner Jarvis a tinplate worker and Laura Ann Jarvis née Reynolds of 28 Beresford Road, Old Radford.

His father Richard Skinner Jarvis was born in 1858 at Norwich, his mother Laura Ann Reynolds was born in 1861 at Elsworth, Cambridgeshire, they were married on 23rd May 1880 at St Andrews Church, Cambridge, they went on to have 7 children, sadly 3 died in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 28 Beresford Road, Old Radford, Nottingham, Richard 53 yrs is a tinplate worker, he is living with his wife Laura 50 yrs and their children, William 21 yrs a sawyer and Cyril 7 yrs of age.

William John married his wife Sarah Ann Bonser (born 13th February 1892) on 28th October 1911 at St Peters Church, Mansfield, they had two children, Laurence Arthur born 6th February 1912 and Norah Evelyn born 6th March 1915, they lived at 54 Somersall Street, Mansfield,

Commencing 19th June 1916 his widow was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 6 pence a week.

Military history

Private William Jarvis enlisted at Derby whilst residing at Mansfield, he served with the 1/5th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 25th November 1915 and is buried at St. Vaast Post Military Cemetery, Richebourg-L’avoue, France. Plot 2. Row E. Grave 10
