William Henry Allsopp was born on 26th July 1893 at Charlestown, Yorkshire, he was baptised on 25th April 1894 at St Lukes Church, Sharlston, Yorkshire, he was the son of William a coal miner hewer and Sarah Ann Allsopp née Tomlinson of 153 Station Road, Shirebrook.
His father William was born in 1860 at Winecote, Warwickshire, his mother Sarah Ann Tomlinson was born in 1868 at Chasetown, Staffordshire, they were married in 1885 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 10 children.
In the 1911 census the family are living at 153 Station Road, Shirebrook, William 51 yrs is a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Sarah Ann 43 yrs and their children, Charles 21 yrs a coal miner hewer, William Henry 17 yrs a coal miner loader, Harold 14 yrs a coal miner Phillip 12 yrs a scholar, Herbert 10 yrs, Arthur 6 years and Albert 4 yrs of age.
Private William Henry Allsopp enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Shirebrook, he served with the 2nd battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, he was attached to the 175th Tunnelling Company, Royal Engineers, he was killed in action on 7th July 1917 and is buried at Brandhoek Military Cemetry, Belgium
