William Worsley (junior) was born in 1897 at Bolsover, he was the son of William Worsley (senior) a coal miner hewer and his first wife Sarah Worsley (1860-1905) of 167 Selwyn Street, Hillstown
His father William (senior) was born in 1862 at Clowne, Derbyshire, his mother Sarah was born in 1860, she died in 1905, they were married and went on to have 8 children, sadly 3 died in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census the family are living at 167 Selwyn Street, Hillstown, Chesterfield, William (senior) 49 yrs is a coal miner hewer, he is living with his second wife Annie 48 yrs (born 1863 Pontefract) and his children Horace 20 yrs a coal miner, Lizzy 17 yrs no occupation, William 15 yrs unemployed, Nellie 12 yrs and Bramwell 9 yrs of age.
William Worsley (junior) married Hannah Hyatt (born 17th December 1893) on 30th August 1914 at Scarcliff, Derbyshire they lived at 10 Chandlers Yard, Mansfield, they had a son William born 29th August 1915.
Commencing 14th August 1916 his widow was awarded a pension of 15 shillings a week.
Private William Worsley enlisted at Mansfield he served with the 8th battalion Lincolnshire battalion, he landed in France on 4th October 1915 and was killed in action 20/21 January 1916, he is buried at Cite Bonjean Military Cemetery, Armentieres, France.
This man is commemorated in a book of remembrance held by Mansfield District Council.
