Frederick John Edwards was born in 1897 at Clowne, Derbyshire, he was the son of the late William Henry Edwards a coal miner hewer and Louis Edwards née Bentley of 8 Portland Street, Clowne.
His father William Henry was born in 1857 at Cornwall he died in 1913 aged 56 yrs his mother Louis Bentley was born in 1861 at Monash, Derbyshire, they were married on 17th May 1880 at Eckington, Derbyshire, they went on to have 8 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census the family are living at 14 Creswell Road, Clowne, William Henry 54 yrs is a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Louis 50 yrs and their children, Arthur 26 yrs a butcher, Alice 22 yrs home working, Frederick 15 yrs a butcher and Hilda 10 yrs a scholar.
Private Frederick John Edwards enlisted at Chesterfield whilst residing at Clowne, he served with the 11th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, landing in France on 23rd September 1915 and was killed in action on 12th February 1916, he is buried at Sur-La- Leys- Canadian Military Cemetery.
