Family history

Archie Millership was born in 1890 at Newstead, Nottinghamshire he was the son of George Henry a coal miner hewer and the late Elizabeth Millership née Heath of 10 Brownlow Road Mansfield.

His father George Henry was born in 1868 at Mansfield his mother Elizabeth Heath was born in 1869 at Mansfield, she died in 1915 aged 46 yrs, they were married in 1888 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 10 children.

In the 1911 census his parents and siblings are living at 10 Brownlow Road, Mansfield, George Henry 43 yrs is a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 42 years and their 8 children.

In the same 1911 census Archie has left the hom address , he is a lodger 21 yrs single and is boarding at 3 Mount Villas, Mansfield he is lodging with William Blake 53 yrs a general labourer and his family.

Military history

Gunner Archie Millership enlisted at Derby he served with the 33rd Company Royal Garrison Artillery, he landed in France on 4th July 1915 he died on 18th November 1915 of heart failure at Freshwater Isle of Wight and is buried at Freshwater All Saints Churchyard, Isle of Wight.

Mansfield and Ashfield Chronicle: 23/12/1915: Died of heart failure. 6 months previously had suffered a violent injury to chest by recoil of heavy gun. He was still being treated for these injuries when he died. 6ft tall , 14 stones and a fine fit man before injury.
Freshwater (All Saints) Churchyard: " In the midst of life, we are in death"

This man is commemorated in a book of remembrance held by Mansfield District Council.
