John Henry Wallis was born in 1899 at Nottingham, he was the son of John Henry a brick layer and Annie Wallis née Lavender of 38 Crown Street Carlton Road Nottingham.

His father John Henry was born in 1872 at Nottingham, his mother Annie Lavender born 1879 at Nottingham, they were married in 1896 at Nottingham, they went on to have 9 children, sadly 3 were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 24 St Stephens Gardens, Poynters Ave, Carlton Road, Nottingham, John Henry39 yrs is a brick layer he is living with his wife Annie 32 yrs and their children, Ethel 13 yrs, Charles 12 yrs, Kate 8 yrs, John 6 yrs, Mable 4 yrs and Lily 2 years of age.

Military history

Prvate Charles Henry Wallis enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 8th battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, he was killed in actionon 12th April 1918, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial, Belgium.
