Ronald Thomson was born in 1898 at Nottingham, he was the son of Herbert Sidney a furniture wood carver and Amelia Alice Thomson née Heath and the brother of Florence, William Herbert and George Thomson.

His father Herbert Sidney was born in 1869 at Nottingham, his mother Amelia Alice Heath was born in 1869 at Nottingham, they were married in 1896 at Nottigham, they went on to have 4 children.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 8 Leicester Street Nottingham, Herbert Sidney 40 yrs is a furniture wood carver he is living with his wife Amelia Alice 41 yrs and their children, Ronald 13 yrs, Florence 10 yrs, William Herbert 5 yrs and George 3 years old.

Military history

Private Ronald Thomson enlisted at Nottingham he initially served with the service number 22756 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he later transferred and served with 'A' Company the 2nd battalion Lancashire Fusiliers He was killed in action on 12th October 1916, having jo known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial
