Family history

Herbert Charles Raynor was born in 1897 at Nottingham, he was the son of John a plate layer and Mary Raynor née Welbourne of 10 Herbert Street Nottingham.

His father John was born in 1845 at Nottingham, his mother Mary Ann Welbourne was born in 1853 also at Nottingham, they were married on 25th December 1875 at St Ann's, Nottingham, they went on to have 9 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or ealy childhood.

In the 1911 census his parents and siblings are living at 10 Herbert Street, Nottingham, John 66 yrs is a labourer, he is living with his wife Mary Ann 58 yrs and their children, Annie 30 yrs a lace folder, John 24 yrs a bleacher and William 18 yrs a glazier.

In the 1911 cenus Herbert has left the family home he is living at 7 Market Place, Bolsover, he is shown as being 15 yrs and is assiting in his brothers Albert business who is 29 yrs and a watchmaker and jeweller, who is living with hisw wife Gertrude 28 yrs

Military history

Private Herbert Charles Raynor enlisted at Bolsover , he served with the 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 23rd March 1918, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial
