Family history

Samuel Hackford was born in 1880 at Alford, Lincolnshire, he was the son of John an agricultural labourer, and Lucy Hackford née Wilson Suggitt.

His father John was born in 1851 at Mumby, Lincolnshire, he died in 1915 aged 64 yrs, his mother Lucy Wilson Suggit was born in 1846 at Grimsby she died in 1891 aged 41yrs, they were married in 1870 at Spilsby Lincolnshire, they had 5 children.

In the 1911 census Samuel is a serving soldier with the 1st battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, he is 31 yrs of age and is single, he is in barracks in Aden

He was the brother of Annie Hackford of 13 Lindum Grove Meadow Lane Nottingham (His legattee)

Military history

Lance Corporal Samuel Hackford initially enlisted on 4th September 1897 at Grimsby, he was 18 yrs of age and was a farm labourer, he was posted to the Lincolnshire Regiment, he saw service in India 6th September 1899 until 20th February 1911, followed by service in Aden 11th March March 1911 until 31st October 1912. He returned to England on 1st November 1912. He reenlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 12th Bn Norfolk Regiment, he was killed in action on 20th November 1917 he is buried at Alexandria (Hadra) War Memorial Cemetery

His sole relative was his sister Annie
