Family history

Tom Harold Crayton was born in 1885 at Nottingham, he was the son of Richard a rewers carter and Elizabeth Crayton née Green of 40 Sharp Street, Hull

His father Richard was born in 1856 at Woostone, Lancashire, his mother Elizabeth Green was born in 1848 at Beggleswade, Lancashire, they were married in 1876 at Nottingham and had 4 children,

In the 1901 census the family lived at 66 Broad Oak Street St Ann's Nottingham.

In the 1911 census we find Tom Harold Crayton is 25 yrs single and a barman, he is a patient at Nottingham General Hospital, Postern Street, Nottingham.

In the same 1911 census his parents are living at 3 Cromer Road, Nottingham, Richard 55 yrs is a brewers carter, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 63 yrs.

His pension record card shows his next of kin as his mother Elizabeth Crayton of 40 Sharp Street, Hull and Miss Louise Bridgett 17 Huntingdon Street, Nottingham is the guardian of his illegitimate child.

Military history

Private Tom Harold Crayton enlisted at Hull on 27th January 1915 giving his age as 29 yrs and 9 months, he was a grocers clerk and was living at Queens Road, Hull, he served with D' Coy 10th battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, he landed in France on 7th March 1916 he was returned to England on 17th September 1916.

He died on 11th March 1918 of phthisis (pulmonary tuberculosis) he is buried at Hull Northern Cemetery

His brother Lance Corporal Harry Rowell Crayton enlisted at Nottingham, giving his age as 33 years and 11 months, he was a motor mechanic and was living at 13 Campbell Grove, Robin Hood Street, Nottingham he stated he had previous miliary experiance wit the Sout Notts Hussars, he was embodied for war on 5th September 1914 and posted to the 3rd Cavalry Reserve. He entered theatre on 26th April 1915.

He was discharged from the Army on 13th April 1917 no longer fit for active service due to pulmonary tuberculosis. He died on 24th April 1918 of a cardiac failure.
