Family history

Frank Coates was born in 1884 at Nottingham, he was the son of George and Alice Coates.

He was the husband of Emily Robinson (born 4th July 1855) whom he married on 25th December 1907 at St Ann's Church, Nottingham they had two children, Alice Adelaide born 26th November 1908 and Walter Coates born 22nd November 1910.

In the 1911 cenus the family were living at 9 Fyne Stree, Nottingham, the family were
boarding with George Topham 30 yrs a carter and his family,Frank 26 yrs is a twisthand, he is living with his wife Emily 25 yrs a winder and their children, Alice 2 yrs and Walter 4 months old.

Emily later lived at 3 Cathcart Street St Ann's Well Road, Nottingham

Commecing 24th June 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 26 shillings and 8 pence a week. .

Military history

Corporal Frank Coates enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 9th battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, he was killed in action on 3rd December 1917, he is buried at Wancourt British Cemetery
