Arthur Henry Clarke was born in 1883 at Nottingham.

He was the husband of Laura Shearsmith (born 19th August 1882 Wootton, Lincolnshire) whom he married in 1907 at Boston, they lived at 26 Union Road Nottingham they had a daughter Ivy Shearsmith born 7th March 1907 who was born before they were married. They had a son Louis Kitchener Clarke born 14th April 1915.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 6 Windsor Terrace, Boston, ArhturHenry 28 yrs is a hotel waiter, he is living with his wife Laura 27 yrs and their daughter Ivy Shearsmith 3 yrsof age.

Commencing 23rd December 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 25 shillings and 5 pence a week.

Military history

Lance Corporal Arthur Henry Clarke enlisted at Boston, he served with the 8th battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 28th May 1918 and is buried at Bertrancourt Military Cemetery
