Benjamin Staley Brearley was born in 1884 at Newhall, Burton on Trent he was the son of Joseph Brealey a coal miner and Elizabeth Brearley née Jarvis,
His father Joseph was born in 1834 at Newhall, his mother Elizabeth Jarvis was born in 1840 at Swalincote, she died in 1895 aged 55 rs, they were married on 15th August 1858 at St John's Church, Newhall they went onto have 6 children.
Benjamin was the husband of Lizzie Richards, (born 12th February 1887 ) they were married in 1907 at the Independent Chapel, High Street, Burton on Trent. they had 2 children, Frank Leonard Staley Brearley born 7th March 1908 and Clarice May Brearley born 23rd July 1914, .
In the 1911 census the family lived at 380 Meadow Lane Nottingham Benjamin Staley 27 yrs was a canvasser assurance he is living with his wife Lizzie 24 yrs and their son Frank Leonard Staley 3 yrs old.
Commencing 8th April 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 22 shillings and 11 pence a week.
Private Benjamin Staley Brearley enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 18th battalion The Kings (Liverpool Regiment) he was killed in action on 22nd September 1917 and is buried at Torreken Farm Cemetery number 1, Belgium
