Family history

Harry Wood was born in 1883 at Nottingham. he was the husband of Anne Ada Prophet born 27th February 1877 they were married on 11th February 1911 at St Marks Church, Nottingham, they had a daughter Muriel born 10th April 1916.

At the time of Harry's death they were living at 8 Howard Street, Glasshouse Street, Nottingham. His wife had two daughters, Lily and Ivy, by her first marriage. His daughter, Muriel, married Ronald William Cammell in 1939 and had a daughter, Angela, and a son, Christopher.

In the 1911 census the family were living at 18 St Albans Street, Nottingham, Harry 26 yrs is a plumber he is living tih his wife Annie Ada 34 yrs and her children, Lilp Phrophet 12 yrs and May Prophet 11 yrs of age.

Commencing 1st January 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 17 shillings and 6 pence a week.

Military history

Sapper Harry Wood enlisted at Nottingham on 5th March 1906 giving his age as 19 yrs and 10 months, he was a plumber, he was posted to the Royal Engineers, he was later posted to the reserves. Mobilised for war on 12th August 1914 at Chatham, he served with 'G' Coy, Royal Engineers, he was in France from 16th March 1915 until 6th September 1915 when he was returned to England until 26th July 1916. He reicved a gun shot wound to his back on 12th March 1915 and another gun shot wound to his back on 22nd December 1915.

He was discharged from the Army on 25th August 1916 no longer physically fit for war service. He died at home as a result of shrapnel wounds received on 3rd November 1916 and was buried in Nottingham General Cemetery (grave ref 1936)
