Family history

Edwin Wood was born in 1874 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Edwin Wood a labourer and Jane Wood née Burley,

His father Edwin was born in 1833 at Nottingham, he died in 1882 at Nottingham aged 49 yrs his mother Jane Burley was born in 1839 at Nottingham, they were married on 25th November 1855 at Nottingham,they went onto have 8 children.

Edwin was the husband of Ellen Pilgrim born 17th July 1875 they were married on 19th December 1893 at Nottingham, they had the following children, Annie, Edwin, Joseph, Ernest and Thomas Wood.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 29, Tyler Street, Glasshouse Street, Nottingham, Edwin 37 yrs is a hawker, he is living with his wife Ellen 34 yrs and their children, Annie 17 yrs no occupation listed, Edwin 12 years od, Joseph 5 yrs, Ernest 4 yrs and Thomas 2 years of age.

Commencing 19th May 1919 his widow was awarded a pension of 29 shillings and 7 pemce a wee at this date she lived at Buxton Stret, Meadwos, Nottingham.

Military history

Private Edwin Wood enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 28090 in the Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment) he was later transferred to the Royal Defence Corps, he died of pneumonia and influenza on 10th November 1918 and is buried at Newry St Patricks (Church of England) Churchyard County Down.
