Family history

Arthur Williams was born in 1896 at Nottingham, he was the son of Edward Arthur Williams a cricket bat maker and Mary Williams née Howe and the brother of Florence, Frederick (killed in action 13/10/1918), Lily, Mary, John, William, George and Cyril Williams of 29 Cathcart Street, St Ann's, Nottingham.

His father Edward Arthur was born in 1872 at Nottingham, his mother Mary Howe was born in 1875 at Nottingham, they were married in 1896 atNottingham and went on to have 9 children.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 10 Norland Road , St Ann's, Nottinghamand Edward Arther 39 yrs is a cricket bat maker, he is living with hs wifr Mary 36 yrs and their 9 children, including Arthur 15 yrs an errand boy and Fred 13 yrs also an errand boy.

Military history

Private Arhtur Williams enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 27th June 1917 and is buried at Loos Cemetery(XIX> G. 13.)

His brother Private Frederick Williams enlisted in Nottingham and initially served as No. 24554 in the Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment) but was posted to 15th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment. He was killed in action 13th October 19189 and is buried at Dadizeele New British Cemetery (IV. F. 9)
