Family history

Edward George Weston was born in 1894 at Nottingham, he was the the son of William John a coal merchant and Mary Ann Weston née Jones and the brother of Thomas and George Weston.

His father William John was born in 1864 at London, his mother Mary Ann Jones was born in 1867 at Kent, they were married in 1887 at Eton, Buckinghamshire,they went on to have 11 children, sadly 4 were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 223 Alfred Street Central St Ann's Nottingham William 47 yrs is a coal merchant he is living with his wife Mary Ann 44 yrs and their children, Edward 18 yrs a carter, Thomas 16 yrs a carter, George 14 yrs.

Edward George was the husband of Ethel May Payne (born 18th October 1894 ) they were married on 30th May 1917 at St Mark's Church, Nottingham, they lived at 6 Lake Street Southey Street Nottingham.

Commencing 22nd April 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week, she was living at 101 Hanley Road, Forest Fields, Nottingham at this time.

Military history

Private Edward George Weston was called up for service on 15th March 1916 giving his address as 223 Alfred Street Cental, St Ann's, Nottingham, giving his age as 22 yrs and 9 months, he was a coal carter, his next of kin was his wife father of the same address.

Initially posted to the Northumberland Fusiliers with the service number 316472. He later transferred to the Royal West Kent Regiment on 20th July 1917 . He landed in France on 3rd July 1917 and was killed in action on 31st July 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial
