Fred Walker wasborn in 1895 at Nottingham, he was the son of Samuel a pork butcher and Mary Ann Walker née Pollard of 8 Watt Street Brook Street Nottingham.
His father Samuel was born in 1851 at Nottingham his mother Mary Ann Pollard was born in 1867 in Cambridgeshire, they were married in 1899 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 4 children.
In the 1911 census the family is living at 8 Watt Street, Brook Street, Nottingham, Samuel 60 yrs is a pork butcher he is living with his wife Mary Ann 44 yrs and their children Fred 16 yrs a lace worker, Robert 12 yrs a scholar, William 9 yrs a scholar and Henry 4 yrs of age.
Rifleman Fred Walker enlisted in Nottingham, he served with the 1st battalion King's Royal Rifles Corps he was killed on the Somme on 14th November 1916. His body was never recovered, but his name was commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial (Pier & Face 13A, 13B)
