Family history

William Henry Vann was born in 1875 at Nottingham, he was baptised on 31st October 1875 at St Thomas's Church, Nottingham, he was the son of the late John Henry Vann a hosiery maker and Elizabeth Vann née Goodman of Ella Road West Bridgeford Nottingham.

His father John Henry was born in 1850 at Weston Magna, Leicestershire, he died in 1908 aged 68 yrs his mother Elizabeth Ann Goodman was born in 1854 in Loughborough, married in 1898 at Leicester, they lived at Victoria Villas, Colwick, Nottingham .

William Henry married Caroline Ellen Shelton 9born on 14th April 1897 at St Ann’s, Nottingham, they lived at 83 Blue Bell Hill, Nottingham he was the father of Henry James b1898, Caroline born 1901 and Constance Annie Vann born 1907

In the 1911 census the family lived at 35 Robin Hood Street and later at 83 Blue Bell Hill (both St Ann's Nottingham).

Military history

Sgt. William Henry Vann served with 4th Reserve Bde., Royal Field Artillery, but was transferred to (570328) 93rd Prisoners of War Coy Labour Corps, No. 570328.

After the end of hostilities the Labour Corps prisoners were used to help clear the battlefields and also clear ordnance and mines. He died at Calais suffering from influenza, part of the pandemic sweeping through the armies at that time. (Evening Post 12/02/1919) He was buried at Les Baraques Military Cemetery Sangatte (VIII. C. 3A.)
