Family history

Albert Thorneloe was born in 1894 at Nottingham, he was the son of Henry a general labourer and Julia Ann Thorneloe née Parsons and the brother of John, Henry, Julia, Ernest and Arthur Thorneloe of St Ann's Nottingham

His father Henry was born in 1866 at Carlton, his mother Julia Ann Parsons was born in 1868 at Nottingham, they were married on 13th February 1888 at St Ann's Nottingham, they went on to have 9 children sadly two were to die in infanc or early childhood.

In the 1911 cenus the family lived at 20 Flewitt Street Alfred Street South St Ann's, Henry 45 yrs is a general labouer, he is living with his wife Julia 43 yrs and their children, John 20 yrs a tram car driver, Albert 17 yrs a comb maker, Henry 13 yrs old, Julia 9yrs, Ernest 7 yrs and Arthr 5 years old.

Military history

Private Albert Thorneloe enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 17775 in The King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, later transferring to the 9th battalion York and Lancaster Regiment, he was killed in action on 1st July 1916 the first day of the Battle of the Somme, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial
