Family history

John Malborn Swift was born in 1885 at Hyson Green, Nottingham, he was the son of John Swift a coal miner he was the brother of Mary Ann b1873, Albert b1878 and Ethel born 1887

He was the husband of Mary O'Callahan (born 8th December 1879) they lived at 6 Radnor Street St Ann's Nottingham they had 2 children, Richard Joseph born 18th September 191o and John Gerald Alfonso born 26th February 1912.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 32 Newdigate Steet, Derby, John Malborn Swift 28 yrs is a corporal in the Army, he is living with his wife Mary 29 years and their son Richard Joseph 6 months old.

Commencing 11th June 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 25 shillings and 5 pence her address at this time was 17 Adelaide Street, Cork.

Military history

Sergeant John Malborn Swift enlisted at Nottigham whilst residing at Cork he served with the 1st battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 14th November 1916 and is buried at Guards' Cemetery, Lesboeufs

For conspicuous good work as instructor at a school of Instruction at the front. He has shown great energy and keenness and has contributed materially to the efficiency of those under instruction.
