Frederick Swanwick was baptised on 13th October 1897 at St John's church, Buwell he was the only son of the late Frederick Swanwick a coal minerand of Mary Jane Swanwick née Smith 147 Pym Street, Nottingham.

His father Frederick was born in 1864 at Cotgrave, his mother Mary Jane Smith was born in 1864 at Bulwell, they were married on 25th February 1888 at St John's church, Bulwell they went on to have 8 children, 7 daughters and a son.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 64 Chandos Stret, Coppice Road, St Ann's, Nottingham, Frederick 47 yrs is a coal timberer, he is living with his wife Mary Jane 47 yrs and their seven daughters and son Frederick 13 yrs a scholar.

Military history

Private Frederick Swanwick was called up for service on 22nd March 1915, giving his address as 147 Pym Street, Nottingham, and enlisted with the Sherwood Foresters, No. 3951, but later volunteered for the Machine Gun Corps.

Following training at Belton House, Grantham he was sent to France embarking from Folkstone on 20th August 1916 landing at Boulogne the same day but was killed in action on 3rd July 1917 and is buried at Mory Abbey Military Cemetery, Mory.(I. J. 9.)
