Claud Stones was born in 1897 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Thomas a brick layers labourer and the late Matilda Stones née Dalley of 18 Clare Street, Lower Parliament Street, Nottingham.
His father Thomas was born in 1853 at Nottingham, he died in 1918 aged aged 66 yrs his mother Matilda Dalley was born in 1854 at Nottingham, she died in 1913 aged 59 yrs, they were married on 2nd June 1879 at St Marks Church, Nottingham , they had 12 children, sadly 4 were to die in infancy or early childhood, he was the brother of Thomas (killed in action 19/9/918), Harold, Ethel, Harry and Florence Stones.
In the 1911 census the family lived at 18 Clare Street Lower Parliament Street Nottingham Thomas 58 yrs is a brick layers labourer, he is living with his wife Matilda 57 yrs and their 6 children including Claud 18 yrs a bottle maker.
Private Claud Stones enlisted at Nottingham he served with the 2/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, Killed in action, 21st March 1918, aged 21, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)
