Family history

William Shephard was born in 1884 at Loughborough, he was the son of Elizabeth and the late John Shephard a labourer of Loughborough.

His father John was born in 1845 at Barrow Leicestershire, he died in 1918 he was 73 yrs old, his mother Elizabeth was born in 1853 at Burton, Leicestershire, they were married prior to 1872 and went on to have 10 children.

In the 1911 census William Shephard is boarding at 19 St Albans Street Flewitt Street Alfred Street South St Ann's Nottingham shown as William Shephard 26 yrs a cabinet maker he is living with Harry Pearson 29 yrs an upholstery and his family.

William was the husband of Ada Mills (born 17th July 1892)they were married on 2nd December 1911 at St Matthias Church, Sneinton, Nottingham, they lived at 81 Gordon Road St Ann's Nottingham. He was the father of Hilda Jenny Gertrude born 25th May 1912, John William born 5th July 1914 and Arthur 21st December 1915, Shephard

Commencing 27th January 1919 his widow was awarded a pension of 29 shillings and 7 pence a week.

Military history

Private William Shephard enlisted at Nottingham and seved with 'C' Coy 11th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment he was killed in action on 29th June 1918, aged 34
