Family history

born 'Ewart' Augustus Romaine was born in 1895 at Hammersmith, London he was the son of Charles a forman engineer and Isabella Selina Romaine née Bracher of 'Belle Vue House' 146 Blue Bell Hill St Ann's Nottingham.

His father Charles was born in 1855 at Chirton,Wiltshire, his mother Isabella Selina Bracher was born in 1859 at Odstock, Wiltshire, they were married in 1876 at Andover, Hampshire, they went on to have 14 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood,

In the 1911 census the family are living at Belle View House, Blue Bell Hill Road, Nottingham, Charles 56 yrs ia a forman engineer, he is living with hsiw wife Isabella 51 yrs and 8 of their children.

In the same 1911 census Augustus has left the family home, he is living at The Flying Horse Hotel, Nottingham, he is 15 yrs of age and is a page boy at the hotel

Military history

Private Augustus Romaine enlisted at Nottingham he served with the 17th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 3rd September 1916 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
