Family history

Francis Frederick Riley was born in 1887 in Nottingham, he was baptised on 8th August 1887 at St Stephens Church, Sneinton, he was the son of Francis Henry Riley a labourer and Eliza Selby of 27 South Street, Sneinton, Nottingham.

Francis Frederick was the husband of Susannah Jane Claricoate born 13th January 1886 at Leicester, they were married on 4th November 1907 at the Nottingham registry office, they had the following children, Frederick Albert born 13th October 1909, Francis Henry born 21st February 1911 and Christopher Archer born 11th June 1915.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 17 Florence Terrace Simkins Street Blue Bell Hill St Ann's Nottingham Francis Frederick Riley 23 yrs is a carter, he is living with his wife Susannah Jane 25 yrs and their children, Frederick Albert 1 year old and Francis Henry 1 month old.

Commmencing 26th March 1919 his widow was awarded a pension of 39 shillings and 7 pence a week.

Military history

Lance Corporal Francis Frederick Riley enlisted at Nottingham on 14th March 1906, he was 18yrs and 1 month old, he was a brick layers labourer, he served with the Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment). He served his time and was placed in to the reserves.

Upon the outbreak of war he was mobilsed/embodied on 5th August 1914, however he was found to be medically unfit to serve.

He did serve in the 19th protection Company the Royal Defence Corps, he was discharged from the Army on 18th April 1917 with pulanory tuberculosis

He died on 25th February 1919 and is buried at Nottingham General Cemetery
