Alfred Henry Richardson was born in 1895 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Alfred James Richardson a lace curtain maker and Sarah Elizabeth Richardson néé Phoenix and the brother of Edith, William, Frederick, Percy, Florence May and Kathleen Richardson of 327 Alfred Street, St Ann's, Nottingham.
His father Alfred James was born in 1869 at Nottingham, he died in 1900 at Nottingham aged 31 yrs, his mother Sarah Elizabeth Phoenix was born in 1869 at Nottingham, they were married in 1889 at Nottingha, they went on to have 7 children.
In the 1911 census the family lived 30, Lavender Street, St Ann's Nottingham his widowed mother Sarah Elizabeth 42 yrs is a widow and charwoman, she is living with her children, Edith 21 yrs a sewing machinist, William 20 yrs a clerk in the health department, Frederick 18 yrs a lace packer, Alfred Henry 15 yrs an errand boy, Percy 14 yrs an errand boy, Florence Mary 11 yrs a scholar and Kathleen 10 years of age.
Private Alfred Richardson enlisted at Nottingham, he served with 'B'Coy 1/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Reiment, he was klled in action, 1st July 1916, aged 21, in the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
