Family history

Henry Prior was born in 1882 at Nottingham, he was the son of Henry a bricklayers labourer and Charlotte Sophia Prior née Dovey of Brook Street Nottingham.

His father Henry was born in 1865 at Loughborough, his mother Charlotte Sophia Dovey was born in 1862 at Selson, they were married in 1878 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 9 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 1 Brook Street, Nottingham, Henry 56 yrs is a bricklayers labourer, he is living with his wife Charlotte Sophia 49 yrs and their children, William Fred 24 yrs a newspaper seller, Edward 20 yrs a wood worker, Rebecca 17 yrs a lace jennier, Milicent 9 yrs of age, also living with them is Wakefield Dovey (Charlottes father) 73 years a collier.

Henry was the husband of Edith Sarah Ann Birch whom he married in 1907 at Nottingham, they had a daughter Eliza Sophia Prior born 25th December 1907.

His pension record card states he was seperated from his wife and that she was the guardian of their daughter Eliza Sophia, his seperated wife was awarded a pension of 6 shillings and 8 pence commencing 21st April 1919.

She married James Perry in 1919 and they lived at 98 Manvers Street Nottingham.

Military history

Rifleman Henry Prior enlisted at Wakefield, he initially served with the service number 11565 in the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, later transfering to the 2/6th battalion King's Liverpool Regiment, he was killed in action on 29th September 1918 and is buried at Anneux British Cemetery

He was awarded Chevalier of The Order of Leopold II (Belgium)
