Charles Cyril Pilkington was born in 1898, he was the son of John a collier and Elizabeth Pilkington née Eyre and the brother of Gertrude, Emily and John Pilkington.
His father John was born in 1858 at Sneinton, he died in 1910 aged 52 yrs, his mother Elizabeth Eyre was born in 1858 at Stapleford, they were married on 1st April 1879 at Nottingham they went on to have 7 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or ealy childhood.
In 1901 they lived at 45 Radnor Street St Emmanuel (St Ann's) Nottingham.
In the 1911 census the family are living at 29 Radnor Street, Nottingham Elizabeth Pilkington 53 yrs is married no occupation noted, she is living with her children, Emily 20 yrs a lace pattern girl, John 15 yrs a porter, Cyril 13 yrs an errand boy and Mary 9 yrs of age.
Private Charles Cyril Pilkington enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1/6th battalion North Staffrdshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 23rd July 1918 and was buried in Fouquieres Churchyard Extension (grave ref. III.J.4)
