Family history

John William Parnell was born in 1895 at Nottingham, he was the son of John a boiler makers rivetter and Lucy Parnell née Hdson of 3 Westminster Street, Nottingham. and the brother of Martha Alice, Leah and Edith Marion Parnell.

His father John was born in 1859 at Loughborough, his mother Lucy Hudson was born in 1860 at Nottingham, they were married in 1892 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 9 children, sadly two were died in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 3 Westminster Villas Westminster Street St Ann's Nottingham John 52 yrs is a boiler makers rivetter,he is living with his wife Lucy 51 yrs and their children, John William 15 yrs a boiler makers rivetter hotter, Martha Alice 19 yrs alace pattern girl, Leah 18 yrs a back girl in silk embroidery industry and Edith Marion 9 yrs of age

He was the husband of Lucy Rigley (born 2nd July 1896 ) they were married on 13th November 1915 at St Michaels Church, Radford. he was the father of John Parnell.

Commencing 30th December 1919 his widow was awarded a pension of 25 shillings

Lucy married William Sudworth in 1923 and they lived at Bobbers Mill Nottingham.

Military history

Engine room artificer John William Parnell served from 13th October 1916, he served on HMS Lion, he was discharged on 8th August 1917 due to Phthsis (pulmonary tuberculosis). He died on 28th Janaury 1919 and is buried at New Basford Cemetery, Nottingham
