John Edward Nuthall known as 'Jack' was born in 1899 at Nottingham, he was the son of George Henry a corporation labourer and Louisa Ellen Nuthall née Toms and the brother of Gerty and Walter Nuthall of 11 Pierrepoint Street, Sneinton, Nottingham.

His father George Henry was born in 1871 at Nottingham, his mother Louisa Ellen Tom was born in 1868 also in Nottingham, they were married on 2nd April 1892 at St Pauls church, Nottingham. They went on to have 10 children, sadly 6 were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 29 Fyne Street St Ann's Nottingham George Henry 40 yrs is a corpoation labourer, he is living with his wife Louisa Ellen 43 yrs a lace worker and their children, George 13 yrs a bookbinders apprentice, Jack 12 yrs a scholar. Gerty 10 yrs 1901 schoar and Walter 2 yrs of age.

Military history

Private John Edward Nuthall enlisted at Nottingham, he served with 'D' Coy 11th battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers, he was killed in action on 28th May 1918, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Soissons Memorial
