John (Jack) Newcombe was born in 1898 at Nottingham.
Son of John Newcombe Senior and Florence Newcombe of 93. Woodborough Road, Nottingham they also lived at 7. Clarence Crescent, Gordon Road, Nottingham.
Corporal, John (Jack) Newcombe enlisted at Halifax, he served with the 15th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry.
According to the War Office Daily Casualty ListNumber : 5685 : Dated : 2nd October 1918, he was listed as wounded and a Prisoner of War of the Germans.
He was wounded and captured at the Battle of Epehy.
He was entitled to wear a wound stripe under : Army Order 204 dated : 6th July 1916.
He died of Tuberculosis of the Lung at : the Bagthorpe Military Hostpital, Nottingham on the 1st April 1919.
He is buried at Nottingham General Cemetery.
