Harold Mason was born on 9th June 1895 at Nottingham, he was baptised on 4th July 1898 at St Ann's, Nottingham, he was the son of Henry a tinsmith and Agnes Ellen Mason née Benbow and the brother of Elizabeth Ellen, Richard, Lucy and Edith Mabel Mason of 22 Moffat Street St Ann's Nottingham.
His father Henry was born in 1866 at Nottingham, his mother Agnes Ellen Benbow in 1865 at Loughton, Buckinghamshire, they were married on 19th January 1895 at St Ann's, Nottingham, they went on to have 9 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census the family were living at 22 Moffatt Street, Nottingham, Henry 45 yrs is a tinsmith he is living with his wife Agnes Ellen 46 yrs and their children, Elizabeth Ellen 25 yrs a lace jennier, Richard19 yrs a stocking frame worker, Lucy 18 yrs a stocking frame worker, Harold 15 yra assing in his fathers business, Edith Mabel 10 yrs
Private Harold Mason enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1st/4thbattalion Royal Scots Fusiliers, he was taken a prioner of war in Palestine 5 June 1917 when wounded (obit). He died on 9th June 1917 and is commemorated on the Jerusalem Memorial, Israel
Nottingham Evening Post obituary (abridged) 27 December 1919: MASON, taken prisoner of war in Palestine on June 5th 1917 when wounded he is now officially said to have died between June 9th and December 9th 1917. Private Harold Mason, 1/4th Royal Scots Fusiliers, youngest son of Mr and Mrs Mason, 22 Moffat Street, Nottingham. Mother, father, sisters, Nellie, Mabel and Lucy.
