Family history

Randolph Harold King was born in 1898 at Nottingham he was the son of the late Arthur Henry and Elizabeth Ann Lottie King née Thorpe and the brother of Louis Robert, Leslie Stuart and Herbert King of 17 St Ann's Street Nottingham.

His father Arthur Henry King was born in 1866 at Nottingham he died in 1911 aged 45 yrs, his mother Elizabeth Ann Lottie Thorpe was born in 1873 at Notingham, they were married in 1888 at Nottingham and went on to have 6 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 17 St Ann's Street, Nottingham, Elizabeth 38 yrs is a widow and lace hand, she is living with her children, Louis Robert 15 yrs a junior clerk, Randolh Harold 13 yrs a scholar and Leslie Stuart 9 yrs of age.

Military history

Private Randolph Harold King enlisted on 3rd June 1916 at Nottingham, giving his address as 17 St Ann's Street, Nottingham, he was 18 years and 100 days old, he was a hosiery hand, his next of kin was his mother Elizabeth Ann King f the same address. He was posted t the reserves and was mobilised for war on 1st December 1916 and osted to the South Stafordshire Regiment. He transferred on 30th January 1917 to the 17th Company Machine Gun Corps.

Landing in France on 10th April 1917 he was killed in action on 23rd March 1918, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
