Herbert Kenton was born in 1892 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Arthur a lace maker and Mary Kneton née Godber and the brother of Ernest Arthur, Sam, Marian and Faith Kenton. They lived at 62 Lamartine Street St Ann's Nottingham.
His father Arthur was born in 1847 at Sneinton, he died in 1902 aged 56 yrs, his mother Mary Ann Godber born 1850 at Nottingham, they were married on 6th September 1868 at St Stephens Church, Sneinton, they went on to have 17 children, sadly 4 were to die in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census the family were living at 62 Lamartine Street, St Ann's Well Road, Nottingham, Mary Ann Kenton 61 yrs is a widow and a lace drawer, she is living with her children, Ernest Arthur 40 yrs a teegraph wireman, Sam 20 yrs a tailors presser, Herbert 20 yrs a card board box maker, Marian 18 yrs a lace hand and Faith 15 yrs a lace jennier.
Private Herbert Kenton enlisted at Sheffield, he served with the 7th battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 10th October 1918 he is buried at Montay-Neuvilly Road Cemetery Montay
