Sidney Kemp was born in 1897 at Nottingham, he was the son of Henry and Louie Kemp nee Cohen and the brother of Sarah, John, Isaac and Maurice Kemp of 46 Hesey Street, St Ann's, Nottingham.
His father Henry Kemp was born in 1856 in Poland, his mother Louie Cohen was born in 1867 also in Poland, they were married on 28th December 1890 at Robinson Row Synagogue Hull, they went on to have 6 children.
In the 1911 census the family lived at 46 Heskey Street St Ann's Nottingham Henry 52 yrs is a master tailor, he is living with his children, Jeanette 19 yrs no occupation listed, Sarah 17 yrs a tailoress, John 15 yrs a tailors assistant, Sidney 14yrs a tabacconists errand boy, Isaac 12 yrs and Maureice 10 yrs of age.
In the same 1911 census his mother is living at 5 Exchange Street, Cheesham, Manchester she is shown as being 44 yrs and is a tailoress, she is living with her widowed father Leah Cohen 69 yrs.
Rifleman Sidney Kemp enlisted on 25th September 1915 at East Ham, giving his address as 46 Heskey Street, St Ann's Nottingham, he was 19 yrs of age and was a tailores presser. He was posted to the 18th battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps. He landed in France on 2nd May 1916, he was killed in action on 15th September 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial
