John Clifton Keeling was born in 1893 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Clarke Keeling a retired frame work knitter and Annie Keeling née Clifton of 16 New Market Yard, Finch Street, Nottingham.
His father Clarke was born in 1838 at West Hallam, in the 1911 census he was living at 16 Newmarket Yard, Finch Street, Nottingham he is 72 yrs and a pensioner, he is living with his wife Annie Keeling née Clfton 45 yrs born at Paisley Scotland, they were married in 1904 at Nottingham. They are living with Clarke children, John 18 yrs a gardener, Mary 14 yrs an errand girl and Annie 9 yrs of age.
His father has stated on the cnesus thet he and his wife had been married 20 yrs and had 3 children, (no recorded can be found on BMD records for a marriage in 1891 however one has been found found on the BMD records for this couple in 1904 at Nottingham.)
John Clifton Keeling married Ethel Mclouchlin they lived at 24 Tyler Street Colwick Street Nottingham,
Commencing 28th October 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week.
Private John Clifton Keeling enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 40536 with the Sherwood Foresters Regiment he later served with the 23rd battalion The King's Liverpool Regiment, he later transferred to (51249) 86th Coy Labour Corps and was killed in action on 10thFebruary 1918, he is buried at Boulogne Eastern Cemetery.
