William Johnson known as 'Billie' was born in 1887 at Notingham, he was the son of William a commercial confectionary traveller, and Mary Johnson née Smith of Nottingham and the brother of Kathleen, Agnes Mary, Dorothy and Margaret Johnson.
His father William was born in 1865 at Mansfield, his mother Mary Ann Smith was born in 1857 at Radford, they were married in1886 at Nottingham, they had 9 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood.
In 1911 they lived at 7 Gordon Road St Ann's Nottingham William 46 yrs is a commercial confectionary traveller, he is living with his wife Mary Ann 54 yrs and their 5 children including William 24 yrs a warehouseman.
William married Jane Elizabeth Lewis (born 25th June 1890) they were married on 13th June 1914 at The Nottingham Register Office, they lived at 2 Garnet Street, Gordon Road, Nottingham and had two children, Joseph Bernard born 5th April 191 and Kathleen born 10th February 1917.
At the time of William's death his mother and sisters were living at 7 Rushworth Road, West Bridgford (obit).
Commencing 8th April 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 22 shillings and 11 pence a week.
Gunner William Johnson enlisted on 11th December 1915 at Nottingham, givng his address as 2 Garnett Street, Sneinton, Nottingham, giving his age as 28 yrs and 11 months, he was a grocery warehouse man. He served in the Royal Garrison Artillery, 190th Siege Bty. He embarked from Folkstone on 13th November 1916 landing the same day at Boulogne . He died of wounds and is buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery (grave ref XIX.C.7A).
