William Horsfield was born in 1896 at Hyde, Cheshire, he was the son of James an iron labourer and Maria Horsfield née Radcliffe of 138 Sycamore Road St Ann's Nottingham.
His father James was born in 1872 at Hyde, his mother Maria (Mary) was born in 1872 at Dunkinfield, Cheshre, they were married on 5th September 1896 at St John's church Dunkinfield they went on to have 4 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood.
In the 1911 census the family are living at 10 Grafton Street, Hyde, James 39 yrs is an irol labourer, he is living with his wife Mary 39 yrs and their children, William 15 yrs a dye works labourer, Alice Anna 13 yrd and Fred 9 years old.
Private William Horsfield enlisted at Chester, he served with the 15th battalion, Cheshire Regiment, he died of wounds on 21st August 1917, he is buried at Tincourt New British Cemetery
