Family history

Ernest Holmes was born in 1891 at Nottingham, he was the son of Frederick a boot repairer and Martha Holmes née Peters of 50 Gordon Road St Ann's Nottingham.

His father Frederick was born in 1852 at Nottingham, his mother Martha Peters was born in 1863 at Huntingdon she died in 1904 aged 41 yrs, they were married in 1888 at Nottingham, they had further children, Fred born 1890 and Lucy born 1897.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 170 Gordon Road, Nottingham, Frederick a widow is 59 yrs old and is a boot repairer, he is living with his children, Fred 21 yrs a turner out, Ernest 19 yrs a mechanic and Lucy 14 yrs of age.

Military history

Gunner Ernest Holmes enlisted at Nottingham, he served with 'A' Bty 170th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery, he died on 23rd September 1919 at Didbury, Manchester of pneumonia. he is buried at Nottingham General Cemetery
