Arthur Hingley was born in 1887 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Thomas Hingley a bobbin and carriage maker and Jane Hingley née Dring and the brother of Alice, Nellie, Frank and George Hingley. of 14 Roden Street Robin Hood Street St Ann's Nottingham.
His father Thomas was born in 1845 at Nottingham, he died in 1896 aged 51 yrs, his mother Jane Dring was born in 1848 at Nottingham, they were married on 30th October 1871 at St Stephens Church, Sneinton, Nottingham they had 5 children.
In the 1911 census the family is living at 14 Roden Street, Nottingham, his widowed mother Jane 63 yrs is living with her children, Alice 32 yrs a net mender, Nellie 31 yrs a pattern girl, Frank 28 yrs a farm labourer, Arthur 25 yrs a grocers carter and George 24 yrs a printer.
Gunner Arthur Hingley enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 5th Reserve Brigade, Royal Field Artillery, he died on 15th March 1917 at Catterick camp and is buried at Nottingham General Cemetery.
His brother Frank Alfred Hingley served with the service number 202883 in the 1/4th battalion, Norfok Regiment, he was killed in action on 19th April 1917 his name is commemorated on the Jerusalem Memorial Israel.
