Family history

Samuel Arthur Hickton was born in 1893 at Nottingham, he was baptised on 28th May 1893 at St Matthews Church, Nottingham he was the son of William Henry a dairyman and Rebecca Haines Hickton née Robinson and the brother of Minnie Hickton. of St Ann's, Nottingham.

His father William Henry was born in 1870 at Radford, his mother Rebecca Haines Robinson was born in 1874 at Nottingham, they were married in 1892 at Nottingham, they had a further child a daughter Minnie born 1897.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 253 Gordon Road St Ann's Nottingham, William Henry 41 yrs is a dairyman, he is living with his wife Rebecca 36 yrs and their children, Samuel Arthur 17 yrs a boot shop assistant and Minnie 13 yrs a scholar.

Military history

Private Samuel Arthur Hickton attested on 11th December 1915 at Nottingham, giving his age as 22 yrs and 7 months, his address at 197 Gordon Road, Nottingham, he was a pram painter. He was posted to the reserves and mobilised for war on 9th February 1916, he was posted to the Durham Light Infantry. On 7th March 1917 he was admitted to the Military Hospital at Catterick, Yorkshire with bronchitis. He died at the hospital on 10th March 1917. He is buried at Nottingham General Cemetery.
