Robert John Harrison (junior) was born in Nottingham in 1893, he was baptised on 17th December 1893 at St Wilfrids Church, Wilford, Nottigham he was the son of Robert John (senior) a lace machine fitter and Phoebe Harrison and the brother of Henry and Claude William Harrison of 11 Waterloo Promenade, Nottingham

His father Robert John (senior) was born in 1853 at Derby his mother Phoebe was born in 1852 at Mansfield, according to the 1911 census they had been married for 37 yrs (1874) and had 11 children, sadly 7 had died in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 cenus the family lived at 228 Alfreton Road, Nottingham, Robert John (senior) 58 yrs is a lace machine fitter, he is living with his wife Phoebe and their sons Henry 21 yrs a lace machine fitter, Claude William 23 yrs a lace machine fitter and Robert John (junior) 18 yrs a club waiter.
